Siruelo is Fil-Taga Ace for November
Things went so well for Nester Siruelo and by the time he hit the clubhouse, he had earned the Fil-Taga November Ace of the Month title.
Siruelo and 18 other golfers invaded the Marianas Country Club in Marpi last Sunday for a run at the title.
Siruelo was able to complete his 18-hole challenge with 86 shots, and when his 16 handicap kicked in, the golfer finished with a net score of 70.
The score was good for fourth best in the tournament, but because the Top 3 players had already won ace titles this year, Siruelo was determined as champion of the competition.
Punching in the best net score of the day was August Ace Ralph Yumul, who finished with a gross score of 79. A 12-handicaper, Yumul finished with a net score of 67.
Veteran Rene Batallones, who was February’s B Division Ace, finished with a second-best net score of 69 after taking 87 shots throughout the 18 holes of play. His score dropped below the 70-mark courtesy of an 18 handicap.
January A Division Ace William Retardo posted the best gross score after shooting a 5-over par 77. He sports a 7 handicap, resulting in a net score of 70.
Finishing right behind Retardo and Siruelo was James Lin, who submitted a gross score of 81 and closed with a net score of 71 courtesy of his 10 handicap.
Alsree Chiong, Joe Miranda, and Jhun Calma all finished with net scores of 74. Chiong and Miranda are both 13 handicapers and finished with identical gross scores of 87, while Calma’s gross score of 89 was dropped courtesy of his 15 handicap.
Other players that competed with their net scores in parenthesis are Jess Yumul (75), Freddie Cataluna (76), Greg De Torres (76), George Sablan (77), Nono Bostre (78), Lito Mendoza (79), Fr. Manny Corcuera (79), Jess Aldan (79), Rey Ferraz (79), Mando Guban (82), and Greg Gamboa (95).
Established in 1993, Fil-Taga’s tournaments operate under a computer-controlled handicap system that creates parity among players in the A and B Flights.
A Fil-Taga Ace of the Month champion is crowned monthly. Regular tournaments are scheduled once a month, normally every third Sunday. Green fees are in the $35 to $40 price range for most tournaments.
