One of the strongest teams in the Inter-Government Men’s Slow-Pitch Softball League fell from the ranks of the undefeated Monday night as No Zone was on the losing end of a 12-11 score with the Department of Customs.

Spectators were talking about the outcome of the game well after the lights of Miguel “Tan Ge” Basa Softball Field were extinguished and said that No Zone simply underestimated the threat from Customs. That’s entirely possible.

With a 7-2 lead through two and a half, No Zone watched as Customs chipped away with a pair of runs in the bottom of the third and fired five runs in the fourth to take a 9-8 advantage midway through the game.

The lead changed hands through the fifth and sixth innings, but No Zone was unable to bridge the one-run gap in their final at bats in the top of the seventh and lost for the first time this season.

Pitcher Poland Masaharu went the distance for Customs and added a two-run homerun to aid his cause.
Ports Police 12, ARFF 11

The CPA Ports Police won the battle of the airport defenders by one run on Monday during a seesaw affair in which they traded offensive spurts with the ARFF three innings at a time.

The Ports Police opened with a seven-run outburst in the first and took a 10-0 lead through the first three innings but their bats fell silent as ARFF scored 11 unanswered runs through the fourth, fifth, and sixth innings.

With the game all knotted at 11, the Police scored a pair of runs in their final at bats to take the game. Roy Celis smacked a three-run homerun and drove in a run on a sacrifice fly for the CPA, while Byron Kaipat went 2-for-2 for the lawmen.

P&S 26, DEQ 19

Procurement and Supply exploded with 18 runs in the top of the second and never looked back as they handed the Department of Environmental Quality its second loss in as many contests, 26-19.

DEQ was looking good early after taking a 7-1 lead in the first inning but they weren’t expecting the P&S Express to hammer 18 runs off of 16 hits and have all of their batters reach base in the second inning. On any other night, DEQ’s offensive display would have been good enough to get a win, but despite a pair of seven-run innings they fell shy of their first victory at the Oleai Sports Complex.
