Sanchez ready for third win
It took the defending champion Pirates a while to regain their swagger but they finally got their second win of the season to the delight of their skipper on Monday night by toppling the Tanapag No Zone by double digits at the Francisco M. Palacios Baseball Field.
Manager Craig Sanchez is an accomplished ball player himself and has been through the highest of highs and the lowest of lows on the diamond. After the game he expressed a sense of relief for notching the win against a talented Tanapag team.
“Finally we got our second win. Our bats were always there. It was just a matter of when we were gonna hit,” he said.
One of the reasons the bats were cracking at the Oleai Sports Complex is because slugger Jonathan Salas went 4-for-5 at the plate to lead his boys on the mound. The 15-year-old second baseman is playing his first season with the big boys and said that he is enjoying the experience.
Salas praised his teammates for a job well done and said that while his opponents tried hard, the Pirates were firing on all cylinders Monday night.
“We did great. The boys did awesome. Finally we got our second win,” he said.
Sanchez praised his pitcher Josh Dela Cruz for his performance on the hill as he held his opponents to a handful of hits through seven innings.
“He did well tonight. He did the job tonight and those guys can hit too,” he said.
The skipper said that he hopes that his boys will record their third win of the season in their next outing next week when they open the third round against the Young Guns on Monday, Nov. 27.
Despite having almost two-thirds of the season wrapped up, the Pirates still have a chance and Sanchez explained the reason for his team’s slow start.
“It’s a pretty new team. They just have to play together to get the feel for each other,” he said.
