After returning from a whirlwind of events during the 2006 Miss International Pageant in Tokyo, Japan and Beijing, China, 2005 Miss Marianas Universe Shequita DLG. Bennett has decided to extend her reign to February.

Stellar Marianas, the local non-profit pageant group, opted to host the next pageant in February due to the Miss International organization delaying their annual pageant to mid-November.

Bennett’s reign was supposed to end in October; however, she volunteered to continue her reign until the next pageant.

“It is my desire and intention to continue to serve until February. It is an honor and privilege to serve the Marianas and I look forward to continuing my reign,” said Bennett.

“I have already discussed extending my reign with my parents and they have given me their full support. I look forward to continuing as Miss Marianas Universe and promoting the empowerment of women and the CNMI as a tourist destination,” she said.

“We will continue our support of Shequita and commend her for doing well in the international pageants,” said Stellar Marianas national director Jennifer W. Aguon.

Stellar Marianas has fulfilled all of its obligations to Bennett as a titleholder, with the exception of the scholarship award that will be given directly to the college that she will be attending.

Stellar Marianas is currently recruiting 18- to 25-year-old females for the 2007 Miss Marianas Universe to be held tentatively on Saturday, Feb. 23.
