Thanksgiving is ‘Feed Saipan Thursday’
The Saipan Mayor’s Office is asking everyone to “fast at least two full meals” on Thanksgiving Day to remember those who are hungry and homeless.
Saipan Mayor Juan B. Tudela yesterday proclaimed Thursday as “Feed Saipan Thursday,” the fourth time for Saipan to observe the nationally celebrated day to feed and help the needy.
“I ask every resident within our municipality to remember our brothers and sisters here at home and elsewhere who are suffering from hunger, homeless, and whatever needs they may have in their life,” Tudela said.
He expressed gratitude to Saipan Southern High School for donating at least eight sacks of rice yesterday. Grace Christian Assembly also donated some clothing. Other donations were three boxes of canned goods. He said his office is still accepting donations, which will be turned over to Karidat on Friday.
Karidat director Angie Guerrero, who witnessed the proclamation signing at the Mayor’s Office, said she is overwhelmed that, despite the economic depression in the CNMI, there are still people who are compassionate toward the needy.
“I’m so glad to see sacks of rice because it’s a necessity in our diet,” she said.
Rep. Benjamin Seman, who attended the proclamation signing, also asked the community to sacrifice “a little” this Thanksgiving Day. His colleague, Rep. Absalon Waki, said that, although it is their responsibility to help and serve the community, “we should all sacrifice for those who are suffering.”
Grace Christian Assembly associate pastor Joe Entera and Jesus is Lord pastor Raffy Armia also attended the proclamation.
