The U.S. Army Reserve’s 302nd Quartermaster Company held yet another intense field training exercise—also known as FTX—in Pau Pau Beach early Saturday morning.

The troops convoyed from the Army Reserve Center located in Lower Base and proceeded to Pau Pau Beach in their privately-owned vehicles. Sgt. Donald Fleming led the convoy, with some 26 soldiers following him.

The soldiers were equipped with their Army-issued rucksack, load bearing equipment, canteens, sleeping bags, and camouflage uniform.

Training consisted of reacting to direct fire, evaluating a casualty, performing first aid on a casualty, treating a wound, and reacting to a nuclear, biological, and chemical attack, among others.

Simulating with the equipments available, Pvt. Jerome Bermudes demonstrated how to treat a wound and to evacuate a casualty from a vehicle.

Shortly after, soldiers stood to watch as a team of five performed to the same scenario. This practice led to a number of exercises on evacuating a casualty according to their injury.

Early Sunday morning came as a surprise when 302nd QM Company Commander Capt. Rosita Mendiola initiated an intense physical training on hand-to-hand combat in the sandpit, followed by a team-building obstacle and leadership reaction course.

Exhausted from the hour-long exercise, the soldiers pushed through the pain and ended the training with one last battle in the sandpit.

Training with the 302nd QM company were Sgt. Wilfred Hofschneider, SPC Patrick Rodeo, SPC Tina Tenorio, and Bermudes from the 368th Military Police Company. (Cassie DLG Fejeran)
