Two men allegedly beat up storeowner, steal cases of beer
Two men allegedly beat up a storeowner and stole three cases of beer after they were denied from buying beer early Saturday morning in western Garapan.
Police later arrested suspects Kelvin David Fitial, 23, and Leeroy Olopai Sablan, 23. They were detained for theft, and assault and battery.
Department of Public Safety acting spokesman Sgt. Thomas A. Blas Jr. said preliminary investigation showed that the two men tried to buy three cases of beer from the QQ Store on Hotel St. The cashier refused to sell them the items because it was already past 2am. The storeowner came in and advised the two men that they can’t buy beer at that hour.
One of the suspects cornered the owner by a shelf, while the second suspect ran outside and placed the cases of beer on a vehicle.
When the owner tried to chase the suspects, the one that cornered him punched him in the chest before getting into the vehicle. The owner called police.
Responding police officers later spotted the vehicle parked at the beach side near the Aquarius Hotel in Chalan Kanoa. Fitial and Sablan were found near the area. After the two were identified by the storeowner, police arrested them.
In other news, police arrested a 19-year-old boy for driving while intoxicated Saturday night. His female companion was also arrested for obstructing police’s investigation and resisting arrest.
Nelsin Anson Saimon was arrested for driving while under the influence of alcohol, reckless driving, and minor consuming alcohol.
Maybeleen Anson Saimon, 24, was detained for resisting arrest, and interfering and obstructing a police officer’s investigation.
Blas said investigation showed that Patrol Officer Nobert Mettao pursued a vehicle that was reported driving recklessly along Beach Road in San Jose to Susupe.
Police stopped the vehicle at the entrance of the Department of Corrections in Susupe. While Mettao was investigating the incident, Maybeleen Saimon, who was a passenger in the rear, allegedly kept interfering with the officer’s questioning of the driver, Nelsin Saimon, despite being asked to calm down and not to interfere. Maybeleen then allegedly struggled with the officer.
Police placed the two under arrest and escorted them to the main entrance of DOC.
