Joshua and Isaiah leveled their win-loss records in the 2nd Calvary International Mission-Filipino Community Church Inter-Color Basketball League-Genesis Cup with wins over separate rivals Thursday night at the CIM-FCC Basketball Court in Gualo Rai.

Joshua relied on the backcourt wizardry of Bing Marasigan and Rene Pe to eke out a 63-57 win over Caleb in the first game to improve to 1-1.

Marasigan waxed hot in the first half, accounting for six points in the opening canto and another six in the second to keep Joshua within striking distance, 20-23.

Pe then took over in the third by pouring in eight points to help Joshua take the driver’s seat, 47-41, heading into the fourth and final quarter of the contest.

Long-distance shooter Mike Achas also provided a spark in the third, igniting for seven markers.

Marasigan and Pe then joined hands with silky-smooth forward Ronnie Palero to stave off a late-game push by Caleb to preserve the win.

Marasigan led all scorers with 17 points, while Pe added 13. Achas and Palero accounted for 10 markers apiece.

Caleb, which dropped to 1-1, was paced by the 16 points of Freddie Pelisamen and 13 of Ronald Delos Reyes.

Isaiah, for its part, leaned on the eight ovetime points of Julius Dela Luya to outlast powerhouse Elijah, 89-86, in the evening’s nightcap.

Both team were neck-in-neck the entire ballgame with Isaiah never really getting a comfortable lead against Elijah.

But after regulation ended at 69-all, Dela Luya put the Isaiah team on his shoulders for the three-point win.

Dela Luya scored 25 markers to lead Isaiah, while Bernard Aquino and Manolo Manalo added 19 and 13, respectively.

Shooter Sonny Lerio was brilliant in defeat, punishing all his defenders with an evening-high 35 points in the loss. With the outcome of the contest, both teams are now at 1-1.

The 2nd CIM-FCC Inter-Color Basketball League-Genesis Cup continued last night with Nehemiah taking on Jeremiah in the first game and Gideon facing off against Samuel in the second.
