After closing out the regular season in thrilling fashion, the women of the Northern Marian Islands Football Association will have another week before returning to the playoff pitch.

According to league coordinator Brenda Schultz, the teams will enjoy the Thanksgiving Day holiday with their families and hit the American Memorial Park pitch bright and early on Saturday, Dec. 2.

The NMIFA Women’s League semifinal round gets underway at 9am when the top seeded UMDA Hot Salsa square off against the fourth place Marianas Eye Institute Eyeballers, and continues an hour later when the second seeded Fiesta Resort and Spa Femme Fatales face the third place Saipan Grand Hotel Mamma Mia’s at 10am.

The following week the women will pack up their gear and head south to the Oleai Sports Complex when they play the championship and consolation games in the center of the track and field facility

The morning starts with the bronze medal game at 9am on Saturday, Dec. 9, continues with the NMIFA Women’s League Championship at 10am, and follows with the award ceremony immediately after the games.

In the event that there is a tie in either game there will be a five-minute “golden goal” overtime. If neither team is able to find the back of the net during that time the officials will line the top kickers up for a 5-person shoot out.

There will be opportunities for interested players to join the NMIFA Women’s League for the 2007 Spring season during both the semifinals and championship games, and Schultz said that more details will follow about registration opportunities in January.
