Two Saipan World Resort employees who recently saved an 8-year-old girl from drowning at the resort’s Wave Jungle pool were recognized for their heroic act.

Vener Urena and Frank Yoshida were commended at the resort’s weekly managers’ meeting for their heroic act on Oct. 28, 2006. Each received a Certificate of Recognition and a “gift” from the resort’s vice president and general manager B.K. Park.

Urena and Yoshida saved the girl’s life by administering rescue breathing on the girl, who was unconscious when lifted out of the slide catch pool. After a few rescue breaths, the little girl responded—even before emergency personnel arrived. She was transported to the Commonwealth Health Center for observations and was reported to be in stable condition.

Urena and Yoshida work as PRIMS under the Sports and Recreation Department of the Saipan World Resort. They are certified lifeguards and their primary roles include ensuring the safety of all guests at the Wave Jungle property, teaching guests some water sports and aerobics, etc.

“Saipan World Resort recognizes its employees for exemplary performance and for ‘going beyond the call’. Once again, kudos to our PRIMS for a job well done. The little girl’s family also expresses profound gratitude to these two heroes who saved their precious Lukmoo,” the resort said in a statement.
