Rep. Ray Yumul yesterday donated a total of $6,000 to two schools and the CHC Volunteers.

Yumul issued checks of $2,000 each to the Garapan Elementary School and Oleai Elementary School. Both schools are located within Precinct 3, the representative’s election district.

He also donated $2,000 to the CHC Volunteers, which has been trying to raise $400,000 for the purchase of a hyperbaric chamber and a multi-slice CT scanner for the Commonwealth Health Center.

The donations came from Yumul’s budget allocation.

Saipan Local Law 15-13 contributed $300,000 to the fundraising efforts for the purchase of the medical equipment for the Commonwealth’s only government hospital. The funds were appropriated from poker license fees collected from Saipan operators.

The hyperbaric chamber will serve divers needing safe recompression, diabetic patients with wounds that are difficult to heal, and cancer patients with radiation tissue damage.

The CT scanner will provide detailed cross sectional views of body tissues to help diagnose cancers, cardiovascular diseases and other disorders.
