Introducing the Gloria Ferrer wines
The cups of local wine aficionados overflowed, with the introduction to the island of a new brand of sparkling wine: the Gloria Ferrer line.
Marianas Pacific introduced the brand in a wine tasting event held at the AJ’s Restaurant and Piano Bar last Saturday night.
MarPac’s Sheila Peebles expressed pride over the new product, saying her efforts paid off when she convinced the makers of Gloria Ferrer to distribute the wines to Asia and the Pacific.
“I worked hard to find it,” she said.
Peebles said wine experts around the world have hailed Gloria Ferrer as one of the Top 100 wines in the world.
Among its worldwide recognitions are the Jerry Mead’s World International Wine Competition, Taster’s Guild International Wine Competition, Orange County Fair Wine Competition, Florida State Fair, San Antonio Express News, Monterey Wine Festival, and Colorado State Fair among many others.
Peebles introduced four exquisite wines during the event—Sonoma Brut, Blanc De Noirs, Royal Cuvee 1996, and the Carneros Cuvee 1995.
She said that MarPac distributes the Gloria Ferrer wines to only a few restaurants on the island.
AJ’s restaurant manager Rhea Nishida said the restaurant would carry Gloria Ferrer wines, which she described as exceptional yet very affordable.
“I believe it [Gloria Ferrer] is one thing that people on Saipan will really like,” she said.
Saturday’s wine tasting was attended by, among others, Office of Insular Affairs field representative Jeff Schorr, archaeologists Randy Harper, and Marilyn Swift of Swift and Harper, Younis Arts Studio’s Abed Younis, entrepreneur Rick Jones, Pacific Telecom Inc.’s Hans Mickelson, Joeten Motors’ Matt Deets, Ben’s International’s Ben Lai, educator Travis Warren, biologists Scott Vogt, and Vanessa Pepi.
