The 2006 MDX Good Sportsmanship Basketball League-Coca-Cola Cup cancelled last Sunday’s doubleheader to make way for the Marianas Amateur Table Tennis Association Saipan vs. Tinian Goodwill Tournament.

Commissioner Ramon Awit, in a phone interview yesterday, said the cancelled schedule will more likely be made up during the coming days, as soon as he reserves a schedule with the staff of the Gilbert C. Ada Gymnasium.

When MDX action finally resumes, defending champion Samahang Ilokano at Pangasinense (5-1) and Budweiser (5-1) look to join RHT (6-1) on top of the team standings when they take on separate rivals at the Oleai Sports Complex venue.

SIP is a cinch to keep Old Stocks (0-6) winless in the opener, as the Boy Garcia-coached team will have an overwhelming advantage in manpower with the likes of Elmer Esdrelon, Freddie Pelisamen, Ed Diaz, Rick Alegre, Mhel Manibusan, Edzel Mendoza, and Junar Guiab leading the team.

Old Stocks will try to keep up with a rag-tag group led by veterans Bong Malasarte, Butch Sublemente, and Martin Moreno, plus young speedsters Kovin Ogumoro and Wylie Paez.

Budweiser, for its part, will have a tough challenge in its hands when it tangles with underachieving but dangerous Mover (3-3) in the second game.

The MARPAC- and Pastor Ramir Trinidad-backed team will rely on its deep lineup consisting of Tan Van Buren, Marlon De Dios, Elbyn Cecilia, Peter Camacho, Dennis Vinas, and Sonny Lerio.

Mover, for its part, will counter with Aqua Resort Club stars Dalewin Cortez, Eric Dalangin, Cris Domingo, and Glenn Aquino plus blue-collar mainstays Joy Dayrit, Ron Gamboa, and Ryan Sanciangco.
