Saipan Mayor Juan B. Tudela is all set for his forthcoming trip to Seoul, South Korea, with 16 students from the CNMI for a week of cultural exchange and friendship in the city that is also called the “Miracle of the Han River.”

Tudela said he would be leading 20 students from the CNMI: 16 from Saipan, two from Rota, and two from Tinian. He said three other chaperones from his office would be joining the trip. He said the students joining him are extracted from the top 20 of their classes, mostly from Saipan Southern High School. “They’re the cream of the crop in their classes,” he added.

The CNMI delegates will fly to Seoul, South Korea on Nov. 12. The group will have five days to forge ties and extend friendship and camaraderie between the two cities.

Tudela said the journey is in collaboration with the Korean Association of Saipan. The group has pledged to shoulder the airfare of the group. However, the delegates themselves will have to shoulder the $300 entrance fee for the journey.

“This will be the first time for this year and for the students to visit Korea,” said Tudela, adding that this year would be the largest delegate he has ever had during his term.

The JCI Pacific Saipan Inc. is sponsoring the cultural exchange program in South Korea. This will be the 14th CNMI Students Cultural Exchange Program.

The CNMI delegates will be meeting with officials and other students in Seoul. The group will join in the KOEX, the JCI World Convention. They will also be visiting the Lotte Amusement Park and temples. They will have a sightseeing tour around the city of Seoul.
