Three main islands to celebrate Education Day
All three islands of Saipan, Rota and Tinian are now prepared for this year’s Education Day, which will be held on separate days.
Public School System Commissioner of Education David M. Borja said Saipan and Tinian are slated to celebrate the event on Nov. 22 while Rota will hold it days earlier on Nov. 17. Borja said he would be gracing the separate celebrations on the three islands.
This year’s Education Day will only be half-day, in contrast to previous year’s celebration, but a night of recognition will be held the day before to honor this year’s teacher honorees.
Borja clarified that, due to the limited resources, the presentation dinner is not a banquet. He said some teachers and PSS officials themselves would be shouldering their own dinner during the event. He said the presentation dinner would be “very simple.”
Last year’s top honoree, Gregorio T. Camacho Elementary School principal Charlotte Camacho, will share with this year’s Teachers and Teacher Aides of the Year her experiences last year.
Camacho, who’s leading this year’s celebration, earlier disclosed that principals and PSS officials agreed to a half-day Education Day to provide ample time for teachers to prepare and go home for the Thanksgiving holiday the following day.
“We want people to get back to their families,” she said.
The PSS Human Resource Office is arranging for the venue and funding for the event. Camacho said that PSS would announce the final venue and other details of the event soon.
