The perpetually training Saipan Swim Club athletes are more accustomed to the blue hue while stroking face down in the Kan Pacific Swimming Pool, but next month they will be seeing green during the first SSC Golf Tournament.

According to SSC head coach Michael Stewart, the club is continuing its fund raising efforts by hosting its first-ever golf tournament on Dec. 2 at the Marianas Country Club.

While the tourney is a fundraiser, participants stand a chance of cashing in as well with $500 going to first place, $300 to second place, and $100 for third. To help level the playing field, the tournament will feature a double Peoria scoring system where undisclosed six holes will determine each player’s handicap.

The cost to participate in the tournament is $85 and includes a day on the links, an assortment of mini-games, lunch, refreshments, and awards banquet. Among the mini-games are putting, long drive, and closest to the pin contests.

Stewart said that he is getting some big name help to organize the event as the Jeff Taylor, Ben Babauta, and Ron Hodges will be running the show on the Marpi course.

“They put on the Tournament of Champions so I’m sure they’ll do a good job for us,” he said.
