Man who pours gas on wife gets 3-day term
A man accused of grabbing his wife and pouring gasoline on her head has pleaded guilty and was subsequently ordered to spend three days in prison.
Yong Kil Ahn, 46, signed a plea agreement with the government and pleaded guilty to assault and battery.
Superior Court Associate Judge Ramona V. Manglona accepted Ahn’s plea and sentenced him to one year in jail, all suspended except for three days.
Following the plea agreement, Manglona gave the defendant credit for the three days that he has already served in jail.
The judge placed Ahn on one year of probation and required him to pay a $250 fine and $25 in court assessment fee.
Ahn was also directed to perform 40 hours of community service and undergo counseling evaluation. He is prohibited from drinking alcohol during the probationary period.
A review hearing was set for Jan. 3, 2007, to determine whether the defendant has complied with the terms and conditions of the sentence.
The Attorney General’s Office charged Ahn with assault with a dangerous weapon, assault and battery, and disturbing the peace.
Police said that Ahn beat up his wife on Sept. 17, 2006, at their residence in Koblerville. Ahn allegedly grabbed his wife and poured gasoline on her head after she told him that she and their children would leave him due to his drinking habit.
The 45-year-old victim sustained minor injuries and smelled of gasoline when a police officer responded to the house.
