Four teams advance in DFS

Nine rough and ready teams ground up the grass on the American Memorial Park and Garapan Elementary School pitches last weekend, but only four advanced tomorrow’s finals of the DFS Galleria Girl’s All- School Soccer Tournament.

Gregorio T. Camacho Elementary, Grace Christian Academy, Garapan Elementary, and Kagman Elementary all earned bids to the finals after dispatching the competition at the parks.

The kids from GTC and GCA advanced to the finals out of Group A against the likes of Dan Dan Elementary, William S. Reyes Elementary, and Koblerville Elementary, as the GTC went 3-1 and the Eagles went 2-2 in the preliminary round of action.

None of the Group A teams were able to score more than one goal per game and all of the contests ended with 1-0 scores except for the nil-nil match between Dan Dan and Koblerville.

Four schools turned out for the Group B action Garapan Elementary at the same time as

William S. Reyes Elementary, Whispering Palms School, Kagman Elementary School, San Vicente Elementary School, and Garapan Elementary School got their kicks down the street.

The public schools reign supreme in Group B as both Garapan and Kagman Elementary schools advanced to the final round with strong showings on Saturday.

Garapan lost its opener to Whispering Palms School and downed their counterparts from Kagman 1-0 before playing the San Vicente Canaries to a nil-nil tie to finish 1-1-1, while Kagman played the Canaries to a scoreless tie and lost to Garapan before beating the Terns, 1-0.

Organizers of the tournament recognized the efforts Dean Tenorio and Sue Knecht of the Northern Mariana Islands Football Association and all of the volunteer referees as M. D. Rokibul, Mark McDonald, Perry Lo, Solomon Gazi, Pat Coleman, and Layla Qudsi officiated the games free of charge.

Rather than bounce all of the teams from park to park, all of tomorrow’s games are slated for the Garapan Elementary School pitch. The girls of Gregory T. Camacho and Kagman Elementary open up the schedule at 8am followed by the Koblerville boys against William S. Reyes School at 8:30am.

Grace Christian Academy’s girls take the pitch for their semifinal match against Garapan Elementary School at 9am, while the Grace Christian Academy’s boys match up with Whispering Palms School’s team at 9:30am.

The consolation games for the girls and boys take place at 10am and 10:30am, respectively, while the top girls and boys are scheduled to play for keeps 11am and 11:30am, respectively.
