Genesis Cup kicks off Monday

The 2nd Calvary International Mission-Filipino Community Church Inter-Color Basketball League-Genesis Cup will kick off with a doubleheader Monday, Nov. 6, at the Gilbert C. Ada Gymnasium.

CIM-FCC pastor and league commissioner Noel Puno said the opening ceremony will get going beginning at 6:30pm at the Oleai Sports Complex with two games in tap for the evening.

He also said that the league has adopted the motto, “Yes to Jesus, no to drugs” for the upcoming season.

Pastor Puno also said that a total of 10 teams will be taking part in the competition led by defending champion Ezekiel, runner-up Jeremiah, Isaiah, Daniel, Joshua, Caleb, Nehemiah, Gideon, Samuel, and Elijah.

Aside from reigning MVP Marlon De Dios, Ezekiel will be powered by Ryan Sanciangco and Gilbert Miranda.

Jeremiah will continue to challenge with the addition of young Turks Kevin Cequena, Rowell Aranda, and Ronnel Gamboa.

Other teams expected to be darkhorses are the Daniel team made up of Alegre brothers Tom and Rick, Elmer Esdrelon, Junar Guiab, and Gyles Ruluked and the Nehemiah squad that includes Elbyn Cecilia, Joy Dayrit, and Badong Camacho.

Larry Palero, Francis Rebuyon, and Bing Marasigan, meanwhile, headline Joshua, while Caleb will be bannered by Ferdie Tobias, Ronald Delos Reyes, and Danny Illahi.

Elijah will have Ruther Demigillo, Sonny Lerio, and Bartley Demapan in their corner, while Gideon will depend on Jerryfel Mangahis, Mhelbert Dela Rama, and Jun Pineda.

Noel Conte, Julius Dela Luya, and Edmark Mendoza will lead Isaiah, while Ramir Herera, Milo Felipe, and J.P. Kim will be the key players for Samuel.

After the opener on Monday, games will shift to the CIM-FCC Basketball Court in Gualo Rai beginning Thursday, Nov. 9, 6pm-10pm.

Pastor Puno said the regular season will be made up of one round with the pennant champion getting a bye in the next round and Nos. 2 to 7 figuring in a series of knockout matches.

Ezekiel won the championship of the 1st CIM-FCC Inter-Color Basketball League-Genesis Cup after outlasting Jeremiah, 69-66, last May 29 at the Ada Gym.
