Ex-convict pleads guilty to forgery
An ex-convict has entered a guilty plea in a forgery case filed in the Superior Court.
Gary Lee Castro Pangelinan, 28, pleaded guilty to two counts of forgery.
Associate Judge Ramona V. Manglona accepted Pangelinan’s plea and sentenced him to three years in prison for each count, to be served concurrently for a total of three years.
Manglona said the sentences are suspended except for 105 days. She gave the defendant credit for the time that he has already served in jail.
The judge directed Pangelinan to start serving his remaining six days at the Department of Corrections on Nov. 6, 2006.
Pangelinan will be placed on three months probation and required to pay a $250 fine, $100 in court assessment fee, and $4,587 in restitution to the victims.
Manglona ordered Pangelinan to perform 100 hours of community service and write a letter of apology to the victims.
A review hearing was set for Jan. 3, 2007, to determine whether the defendant has complied with the terms and conditions of the sentence.
According to the court papers, Pangelinan altered a check with the intent of defrauding Bank of America on Sept. 30, 2005. On Oct. 17, 2005, he altered another check.
In June 2006, the federal court sentenced Pangelinan to four months in prison for conspiring with another man, John Richard P. Guerrero, to use and forge credit cards and checks that were stolen from a postal office.
Guerrero also pleaded guilty and subsequently sentenced.
