“Trench Warz IV: Enter the Octagon” coordinator Cuki Alvarez could not be more pleased about the recent event than he is now, and is already looking forward for “Trench Warz V.”

During an interview, Alvarez expressed his satisfaction with the fourth edition of the mixed martial arts competition, and explained that the sport is only going to grow and get better here in the CNMI.

“We are very happy about the turnout. Trench Warz fans are the best fans in the island, if not the world,” he said. “We’re just glad that we’re able to give the fans mix martial arts. MMA is the place and I’m just glad that we have an arena to showcase their stuff.”

Based on reactions from the over 1,000 spectators, Trench Warz keeps getting better and better, and Alvarez intends to keep it that way.

“What I want is to give the fans a little bit more now. [For “Trench Warz IV”] we gave them the big screen so that they don’t miss any action that takes place, and we gave them a nice introduction to hype them up before the fight,” he said, citing the showing of clips from previous Trench Warz prior to the start of the event.

“Every show is going to get better because I, as a promoter, also learn and understand what a fan wants from a fan’s point of view. Not only am I a promoter but I’m also a fan. I really understand what it will take for the fans to can’t wait for the show to start,” he said.

Alvarez also led all in attendance in a moment of silence in honor of all members of the U.S. military who sacrificed their lives for our freedom, and for those who are currently serving the nation.

“We paid respect for our soldiers and our guys that are really fighting the true war around the world. We gave them a little bit of tribute to honor them and show them that we’re not just doing this without them in our hearts,” Alvarez said.

With regards to the 18 fights, Alvarez said the show put on by the fighters is a sign that MMA is improving.

“There were several first-timers, several veterans, and the fighting is just getting more intense and more technical really,” he said. “Now that there are more schools, it’s good that now we can have a place for them to come in and actually really show their skills. I’m sure you saw the match between Art [Reyes] and Jay Muna…that was very technical and it shows that fighting is more technical now than just getting in there and throwing a punch.”

“Fighting has come a long way, and a lot of fighters are interested in doing it. And for those first-timers that stepped in there, now they’re going to say ‘wow man, I think I really need to start training’ and now they have several schools to go and start training at. I’m glad that this is where the MMA community and MMA people and school can actually have a place to showcase their stuff.”

Alvarez also expressed appreciation to all who assisted in making the event a success, as well as to all the fans for continuing their support for MMA.

With “Trench Warz IV” now in the books, Alvarez is turning attention to the hosting of “Trench Warz V,” disclosing that the hosting of “Trench Warz V” will most likely be sometime in mid February. Details about the event soon will be released soon.
