NYBA Community Day this Friday
The Northern Youth Basketball Association will hold its Community Day this Friday.
This, according to NYBA officials Joe Diaz and George Cruz, who said yesterday that the event will serve as a positive venue for players and coaches for the upcoming 2nd Annual DFS NYBA Invitational to make up required workshop hours while doing a part in beautifying the island.
“This is in conjunction with Beautify CNMI, and it’s something that players and coaches can use to make up workshop hours,” Cruz said. “As we stressed in the past, NYBA is not just about basketball, but about a lot of aspects of living a positive life.”
Another players’ workshop will be held this Saturday, and Cruz is hopeful that all players and coaches will meet the requirements by then.
“We’re trying to get everything done by this Saturday because the accreditation committee has a lot to do and will need time to get all their tasks done,” he said.
Roughly about 75-80 players have met the workshop hours’ requirement set by the NYBA board. All players and coaches from Saipan that will take part in the tournament must complete the required number of workshops hours to be eligible to compete. Players are required to complete eight hours of training, while coaches will be required to complete six hours.
The tournament will be held from Nov. 18 to Nov. 25 and will feature competition in three divisions.
Division I include players who are 12-and-under, Division II is reserved for players ages 13-15, and Division III will be for players whose ages are 16-19.
All off-island teams will be provided three meals per day, while all on-island teams will be provided two meals per day.
Entrance fee for each on-island team is $175 if paid before Oct. 14, and $300 for off-island teams if paid before Oct. 21. Late registration for on-island teams cost $275, while off-island teams will pay $475. Deadline for registration is Nov. 10.
About 50 teams, half of them coming from off-island, are expected to compete in the event.
