Brilliant Star Montessori celebrated its International Day yesterday by giving away magnets from around the world.

The magnets were donated and contributed by parents and friends of the school from their travels around the world, including South Africa, Greece, Dubai, Israel, Mozambique, France, Italy, and Germany.

Parents and the children who attended the festivity dressed up in the native costumes of various countries.

Since last year, the school has opted to celebrate International Day rather than observe Halloween.

Principal Mara Khorram said their International Day Parade complemented the school’s mission of global understanding.

“The four-fold mission of Brilliant Star School is to develop children that encompass the qualities of global understanding, exemplary character, service to the community, and creative minds,” she said, adding that these are the key qualities that future leaders need.

Eighty-five children ranging from 18 months to nine years old gathered at the Brilliant Star grounds dressed in beautiful national costumes. Some of the parents were also clad in outfits that complemented their children’s costumes.

Khorram said that during the celebration, parents conducted presentations about their native country or any country that they want the children to know. The school acknowledged the parents’ cooperation and support during the activity. The culminating activity also included a parade within the school campus.

Yesterday’s event also featured dance numbers from the children depicting traditional dances from other countries. Parent Larry Lee presented his talent in playing the ukulele, while Brilliant Star students presented a Korean Drum Performance.

The Te Kanahau Nui Dance and the Cultural Productions Inc. also provided dance numbers during the celebration.
