Detective Juan M. Santos said preliminary investigation showed that Cangco and some relatives were at a house drinking beer and playing cards.
Cangco was losing his chips and got mad at Ereneo Babauta Dela Cruz. The defendant accused Dela Cruz of cheating and brought up past incidents.
Santos said Cangco became aggressive and belligerent, shouting at Dela Cruz.
Cangco was about to attack Dela Cruz, but another relative intervened. Two other relatives tried to stop Cangco, but the latter allegedly punched one of them in the face.
The three relatives managed to wrestle and restrain the defendant to the ground.
When police officer Peter Aldan responded to the house, he saw the defendant shouting at his family members. Frightened children were also crying.
Cangco shoved Aldan on the chest twice and threatened to kill his family. Aldan, however, managed to cuff him.
A family member told police that Cango was very drunk and was out of control.

In November 2000, the federal court sentenced Cangco to four years in prison in connection with his participation in a poker robbery.
