The lifting of the blackout rotation on Saipan will depend on a power engine testing to be conducted today by the Commonwealth Utilities Corp.

CUC deputy director for administration Grina Mizutani told Saipan Tribune yesterday that power plant staff in Lower Base will be testing Engine No. 8.

“They will be running the engine for test and tomorrow we should know if there will be load shedding schedule for Monday or next week,” Mizutani said.

Mizutani said they are hoping that the load shedding schedule will finally be lifted.

CUC executive director Anthony C. Guerrero recently disclosed that CUC may lift by the end of the month the blackout rotation that CUC has been implementing on the island the past several months.

Guerrero said there is a strong possibility they may stop the load shedding schedule before the end of the month instead of their target date of mid-November.

Guerrero said that Engine No. 1 recently came back online while Engine No. 8 is expected to come online very soon.

“There’s some conservation [of power] from the public. It is giving us a little bit more of a reserve, but not yet enough to allow us to manage our load,” he explained.
