Pirates of the Marianas storm Hyatt
This Tuesday, find Captain Jack Sparrow and his cohorts on Saipan. If you’re fortunate, you may even have him or his doppelganger wait on you while you’re dining at the island’s premier hotel, Hyatt Regency Hotel.
Inspired by this year’s box office hit, Pirates of the Caribbean, Hyatt’s Kili Café & Restaurant has adopted a “Pirates of the Marianas” theme for its Halloween Special on Oct. 31.
“We want to make it more fun and exciting. So every year, we come up with something that’s fun and family-oriented,” said Hyatt assistant director for Food and Beverage Daryl Thong.
Last year, Hyatt’s theme was another Hollywood blockbuster, Harry Potter. The year before it, the Halloween theme was The Mummy Returns. Pirate costume
Thong said that during the Halloween dinner party next week, Kili Café staff will dress up and wear pirate-inspired costumes. Guests who want to do the same are welcome.
“It’s one occasion where you get to wear costumes. You can do that and have fun,” said Thong.
The Pirates of the Marianas theme extends from Kili Café to Camp Hyatt with the latter’s Haunted Halloween Carnival.
This event, organized by Club Elan manager Vicki I. Benavente, is for children ages 3 to 12 years.
The carnival, which begins at 5pm, costs $15 per child but it is free to children whose parents will dine in at Kili Café that night.
Thong said parents can drop their kids at Club Elan before and or during dinner for the carnival.
“We will take care of the children while the parents are having dinner,” said Benavente.
At the same time, Benavente’s team will provide additional treat to parents: a free short massage. “It’s going to be free for parents and guardians. They get to receive free massage, which may last for 15 to 20 minutes, while they are waiting for their kids,” she said.
During the night, the children will do the annual trick or treat at all Hyatt outlets such as the DJ’s Corner. Thong said the children will have a costume contest, allowing those wearing “the most creative and scariest” outfit to win prizes.
“We want the kids to enjoy,” Thong said.
Halloween dinner buffetKili Café & Restaurant offers guests a unique dining experience with “pirate-style cooking and specialty items that will surely tickle your taste buds.”
Get ready for a particularly outrageous menu that evening. An example: “Crisp graveyard greens with assorted scab wounds and phlegm-vomit dressings” which is actually garden greens with assorted condiments and dressing. How about “Wild Monster Eyes” for sliced tomato, egg, and olives salad and “monster brain in skull served with crispy corpse skin” for avocado dip with chunky salsa, cheese, and cilantro served in pumpkin and corn tortilla chips? And that is just for starters. The cold station buffet and carving stations will be replete with sumptuous food with blood-curdling names to put everyone in a Halloween mood.
Executive pastry chef Gabrielle Colombo said his team is also prepared to serve special desserts to suit the occasion. Likewise, Colombo will prepare mouthwatering pumpkin dishes during the dinner.
The special Halloween dinner costs $35 for adults and 50 percent off the price for children. Hyatt Club member discounts apply.
