Pacific Resources for Education and Learning has announced the award of two major five-year grants from the U.S. Department of Education to continue the work of the Parental Information and Resource Centers located in the Federated States of Micronesia and the Republic of the Marshall Islands.

Supported by the U.S. ED under a Parental Assistance Grant totaling more than $850,000 in Year 1 alone, the PIRCs work to establish strong partnerships between parents and schools, help parents increase their knowledge and confidence in child rearing, and ensure that children are well-prepared to begin school. A central part of this work is encouraging parents to be more involved in the schools and in their children’s education.

PREL (www.prel.org), home of 1 of 10 Regional Educational Laboratories in the United States funded by the U.S. ED, is an independent, nonprofit 501(c)(3) corporation that serves the educational community in the U.S.-affiliated Pacific islands, the continental United States, and countries throughout the world. PREL bridges the gap between research, theory, and practice in education and works collaboratively with schools and school systems to provide services that range from curriculum development to assessment and evaluation.
