The third leg of the 2006 All Schools Cross Country Series organized by Northern Marianas Athletics has been rescheduled.

According to NMA secretary general Robin Sapong, the third competition of the Series, which was originally scheduled for Oct. 28, has been moved to this Saturday, Oct. 21, at the Commonwealth Ports Authority field.

Sapong said the change was made after the CNMI was invited to compete in the Asia-Pacific Cross Country Invitational on Guam, which will be held on Oct. 27.

NMA is hopeful that the CNMI will be represented in the Guam meet, and is making the change in the schedule to accommodate those who are going to make the trip south to compete.

This Saturday’s race will serve as the final tune up for the upcoming All Schools Cross Country Championships, the last leg of the Series.

The Championships, which was set for Nov. 14, a Tuesday, has now been moved to Saturday, Nov. 18.

Meanwhile, NMA reminds all runners that it will host a 5-kilometer run today, Oct. 19, with registration at 5pm and start time at 5:30pm.

Sapong said the event, dubbed as the Sunset-Stress Free Fun Run, serves as a fundraiser for the CNMI team that will be heading to Guam for the Asia-Pacific Cross Country Invitational.

Entry fee is $5 per person.

Details on the course are currently being finalized, however, the event will be held along Beach Road Oleai and Chalan Lau Lau.

First, second, and third place male and female finishers for the 18-and-under and 19-and-over divisions will be recognized. Prizes will not be given to the top finishers, but all participants will be given raffle tickets and a drawing will be held at the end of the race with prizes from various donors.

Other upcoming races organized by NMA include the Turkey Trot Fun Run on Thanksgiving morning, which features a course beginning at Lower Base and ending at the peak of Mt. Tapochao, and the annual Christmas Island Relay, which will be held on December.
