While the teams of the Saipan Little League Baseball Association are scrambling to finish the remainder of their games before the 6th Micronesian Games, the organizers are busy preparing to welcome squads from Tinian and Rota for the upcoming District tournaments.

According to SLLBA president Michael Borja, the kids of the Major League will take their first step toward representing the CNMI in the Asia-Pacific Regional Tournament in Hong Kong when they take Miguel “Tan Ge” Basa Field on July 6 on Saipan.

The youngsters will battle until the official team from the Northern Marianas is crowned on July 8.

The biggest news is that the Junior and Senior Leaguers from Saipan will have to earn their slot to represent the CNMI this year in Indonesia for the Asia-Pacific Regional Tournament as teams from Tinian have reported for diamond duty.

Saipan’s finest will tackle Tinian’s toughest during the Junior and Senior District Tournament on June 17 and June 18 at the Francisco M. Palacios Baseball Field.

“I talked to [Tinian Little League president] Ike Aquininoc and he said that they do have teams and that and the kids are really excited to come over,” said Borja.

While the kids of Tinian have spent many nights under the lights at Tinian Municipal Field preparing for the contest, the eligible Juniors and Seniors of Rota will stay at home until the leagues form in the future.

The only players that will have to wait to take the field now are the youngest of all, as the Tee-Ball program has been pushed back until the end of the Micro Games to allow for all of the tournaments to finish and the 1,300 athletes from throughout the region to complete their international competition on Saipan.
