He first came to Saipan 10 years ago, fell in love with the place, and couldn’t help it but travel here as often as he could. Yesterday, Hiroyuki Meida made his 100th trip to Saipan.

Such a remarkable record by a tourist didn’t go unnoticed, with host hotel Hyatt Regency Saipan preparing a grand “Hafa Adai” welcome for Meida and his family upon their arrival at the hotel yesterday afternoon.

Hotel executives, led by general manager Michael von Siebenthal, lined up at the lobby area, along with reception staff and in-house musical band, to greet Meida who came with his wife Yukie, four-year-old daughter Hitomi, and brother Takayuki.

“We are so happy to have you again!” said the all-smiling executives and staff.

So why this great interest in Saipan?

“I love to jetski. This is the best place for jetski,” said Meida, smiling.

A medical doctor from Tokyo, Meida said he simply loves Saipan’s tropical environment—the sun, the white beach, blue water—and the fact that the island is a short distance from his workplace.

Saipan is three-hour trip from Narita International Airport in central Japan.

The family came aboard a Northwest flight yesterday afternoon.

Since six years ago, Saipan has become more than his jetski place.

“It’s my dating place. It’s a dating trip with my wife,” he said, beaming, while motioning in the direction of his wife.

The two have a four-year-old child, who now travels with them to Saipan.

Over the years, he said that he has chosen Hyatt Regency “for being so friendly and attentive.”
