Fiesta’s Macalintal is top bartender
Ray Macalintal of Fiesta Resort & Spa was adjudged champion of the 6th Annual Taste of Marianas Bartender Cocktail Competition after beating 10 of the island’s top shakers last May 27 at American Memorial Park.
Macalintal, who wore a Superman T-shirt, wowed the crowd with his bartending skills and got the judges’ nod with his winning cocktail drink he ironically dubbed Kryptonite.
Mauro Boy Sabate, also of Fiesta, took home first runner-up honors as well as best in taste with his concoction Soldier Ade. Second runner-up went to Ernie Garcia of Hyatt Regency Saipan, who whipped up a cocktail he named Marianas Senstation.
Aqua Resort Club’s Day-Ann De Leon and Nikko’s Lorenzo Divino bagged Best in Costume and Best in Showmanship, respectively. De Leon wore a Filipiniana-inspired dress.
Other participants of the bartenders’ competition were Pacific Islands Club’s Marvin Salamat, Aqua Resort’s Jaymar Torres, Hyatt’s Darwin Capati and Rolando Fernandez, Jojo Solmerin, and Ramil Estoque.
The Flair’s Champ also gave all in attendance a performance to remember as he showcased his bartending skills, while tabulators, Christopher Lubi and Wilfredo “Boy” Ching, were busy computing the scores of the participants.
Judges were Coutere Marketing’s Andy Tidwell, Triple J Wholesale’s Becky Castro, Saipan Shipping’s Alex Sablan, and DFS Saipan’s Mark Sullivan.
Also present during the event were MARPAC liquor sales manager Sheila Pebbles, Coca-Cola Beverage Co. (Micronesia), Inc. sales and marketing director Kathryn H. Barry, and Northern Marianas Bartenders Association officials Ramon Awit and Lito Espino.
The 6th Annual Taste of Marianas Bartender Cocktail Competition was sponsored by the Marianas Visitors Authority, MARPAC, Coca-Cola, Carmen Safeway Supermarket, Pacific Telecom, Inc., and MDX Amateur Radio Club.
