Pool tournaments at USSP this June
USS Peleliu Club is jumping into June with two new pool tournaments. A Bowliards contest will run all month and Mondays feature the Table Challenge competition.
Grab a friend or just play Bowliards against anybody in the bar any day before 8pm. A $10 one-time entry fee gets you a score sheet and you can play as much or as little of the game as you want on each visit. All games must be completed by July 1.
The four top scorers will compete in the Rose (Phillips) Bowliards on July 2 for the guaranteed $100 top prize. When more than 10 people have joined, the prize will go up, according to organizer Ken Phillips. Don’t like your score? For another 10 bucks you can buy another sheet.
What’s Bowliards? In case you missed USSP’s earlier contests, it’s pool that’s scored like bowling. You have two turns to shoot at 10 balls. Make a “strike” by pocketing them in one turn and a “spare” by using two turns. Then you move on to the next frame until you’ve finished the game.
Give it a try. It’s one of the best practice games around. And, don’t forget, pool is free from 5pm to 7pm as long as you buy a beverage and Happy Hour prices run until 9pm.
We’ve got one for the kings and queens of the table out there too, says Phillips. It’s winner-take-all for whoever can hold the table in 8-ball on Mondays starting at 8pm. For $2.50 you challenge the table. After everyone plays their first game the winners meet and the losers go to the end of the waiting list. Latecomers come before the losers for their first game.
It’s another $2.50 to challenge again and whoever has won the most games by midnight has bragging rights and the pot. If you have any questions about either contest, call USSP at 233-0013 after 5pm. (PR)
