5 arrested for allegedly stealing utility cables
Police arrested five men who allegedly stole electrical cables from the La Fiesta Mall in San Roque and from the United International Corp. in San Antonio over the weekend.
In the La Fiesta Mall case, apprehended were Clifford Kani Norita, 23; Franklin Camacho Reyes, 24; and Franklin Rios Cruz, 23. They were held for criminal mischief, attempted theft, conspiracy, and accessory.
The Superior Court yesterday imposed a $10,000 cash bail each for the temporary release of Norita, Reyes, and Cruz.
In the UIC theft case, John Babauta Sanchez, 26, and James Wuyoch Mirefel, 27, were held for theft, conspiracy, and criminal mischief.
The court initially imposed a $10,000 cash bail for the temporary liberty of Sanchez and Mirefel.
Detective Simon T. Manacop stated in police report that Norita, Reyes, and Cruz were arrested at La Fiesta when a caller contacted the Department of Public Safety on May 21 at 4:20pm about a burglary in progress at the mall.
When police officers responded, Norita and Reyes were found trying to cut the brass pipes at the generator room.
Cruz, who had dropped Norita and Reyes at the mall, was later arrested when he showed up after parking the vehicle at Paupau Beach.
Police said the suspects admitted trying to steal the brass pipes to sell them to a junk shop so they could buy beer.
In the second case, Sanchez and Mirefel were arrested after a security guard at UIC spotted them allegedly stealing electrical cables from the company worth $130 on May 5. Police said Sanchez and Mirefel were then employees at UIC.
Sanchez allegedly admitted stealing the cables and selling them for $37 to a junkshop.
