Edu Banaag, this year’s top graduate from the San Vicente Elementary School, led some 94 graduates during the school’s commencement ceremony yesterday morning at the Multi-Purpose Center in Susupe.

In her welcome remarks, SVES teacher Yvette Reyes shared the story “All the places you’ll go” by Dr. Seuss. In concluding her remarks, she left the graduates with a quote. “Life is not measured by the breaths we take, but the moments that take our breaths away.”

Keynote speaker Sen. Pete Reyes was on hand to commend the graduates and urge them to think of yesterday’s ceremonies “as a new beginning and not so much a goodbye.”

Reyes also shared with the graduates a story, with the moral lesson that wise and intelligent people learn from the mistakes of others.

“You don’t have to look far to see the mistakes many people make. …You need to look and learn so that you don’t make that mistake,” he said.

Commissioner’s Award recipient Banaag reminded his peers of the reason why they are the children of yesterday’s dream.

“We have earned for ourselves ‘The children of yesterdays dream’… I look around and see one thing, accomplishments,” he said. “We have prevailed… we have gained knowledge from experience. We have pushed to the discipline of scholarship.”

Graduating with the second highest honor was Liezel Tiples, who received the Principal’s Award.

Teacher awardee Mark Liban stood center stage to commend the parents and teachers for their support. “Parents and teachers, remember you are the motivating factors in our accomplishments,” he said.

He also urged his peers to continue to strive for excellence. “ We graduates should continue to strive for excellence. There are very good opportunities awaiting us.”

“There is nothing to fear. The future is not an enemy but a friend. Confidence, optimism, and effort should be our factors to moving on forward,” he added.

The graduates were recognized for their achievements in Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, Bilingual, and Perfect Attendance. (Cassie Dlg Fejeran)
