The Northern Yankees knocked the snot out of the Ford Rangers with a 15-2 beating to take sole possession of second place on Saturday as the Budweiser Saipan Major League continued its march to the post-season at Francisco M. Palacios Baseball Field.

While kids across Saipan were graduating, the Rangers were held back as they gave up more hits than a methadone clinic during a miserable fifth and sixth inning stretch that cost them the game.

Roy “The Rocket” Celis performed less than his spectacular self and was yanked after completing the fifth inning that saw the pinstripers take a 9-0 lead, but reliever J.P. Sablan couldn’t do too much either. The northern boys piled on six more runs during his watch before the umpires invoked the 10-run mercy rule after his teammates failed to score the four runs necessary to continue the game in the bottom of the seventh inning.

There were no complaints from the other dugout as Chris Camacho allowed just two runs off of a pair of hits and fanned three through six before Jonathan Jones closed out the final inning without a scratch to seal the deal.

Catcher Robert Bansil led the offensive charge with a pair of singles, a double, and a run betted in to finish 3-for-4 on the day while left fielder Paul Camacho notched his lone hit when he smacked a two-run triple in the top if the third.

Eric Lizama also managed only a solitary connection, but the second baseman’s shot was a two-run inside the park homerun during the six-run fifth that broke the game wide open.

The Yankees added insult to injury with a four-run sixth inning that gave them a 13-0 advantage, but the Rangers finally answered with some offense when Celis and J.J. Laniyo crossed home plate to stave off the shutout in the bottom of the sixth.

The win pulled the Yankees to within the first place Bud Kings at 7-3 while the Rangers slipped to 6-4.
