Momentum building for Micro Games
Just a few weeks remain before Saipan sees its biggest batch of tourists since the 60th anniversary of its liberation from Japan, and the entire community is pulling together to host athletes, coaches, trainers, supporters, family members, and government officials from Guam, Chuuk, Kosrae, Pohnpei, Palau, Marshall Islands, Nauru, Kiribati, and Yap for the 6th Micronesian Games.
The final numbers of delegate representation are beginning to filter in as the countries and states make their final counts for the competition, and volunteers are lining up to be a part in the quadrennial event.
Public facilities are getting some much needed facelifts, a number of area hotels are lowering their rates for the athletes, local businesses are preparing to offer discounts to participants, and others are giving whatever they can to ensure that the international community will not be disappointed when they come to Saipan next month.
While there is a growing number of volunteers who have already pledged their support of the Games, more are still needed.
Those looking to lend a hand cannot simply show up during the Games with a smile. Before they can don the official gear and help the effort, all prospective volunteers are asked to provide two passport photos for the certification of all volunteers, and those who did not complete and submit a MG 2006 Volunteer Registration Form will be required to do so and return it via fax or email to Volunteer Committee chairwoman Frances Sablan.
While a number of volunteers have already pledged their service, Sablan is asking for more selfless individuals interested in hosting the best athletes from Micronesia to step up and lend a hand next month.
