Some 28 students marched to the flash of cameras into a jam-packed cafeteria of the Gregorio T. Camacho Elementary School yesterday morning to take part in a ceremony that set another milestone in their young lives.

Many members of the Binadu family and the Public School System gathered to acknowledge and congratulate the students, who will be making the transition from elementary students to teens in the junior high school level.

For their part, classmates Lallane C. Guiao and Hillary C. Agulto saw the fruit of all their hard work after Guiao was awarded the Commissioners Award while Agulto earned the Principal’s Award.

“These results occur because everyone that surrounded me told me that all I needed to do was say the words ‘I can,’” Guiao said during her address. “As I move on into learning my next chapter, I will take the knowledge my teachers have given me. This wisdom will be one of the many tools that will help me climb the stairs to success.”

Also earning individual awards were Eumir Valenzuela, John Pineda, Bryan Castro, Jessy Dela Cruz, Zerah Castro, Charing Reyes, Samantha Robert, Cylia Leon Guerrero, and Leilani Babauta who were recipients of the presidential awards for educational excellence.

Other awards were also presented, such as reading to Guiao and Babauta; language arts and writing to Agulto and Lea C. Guiao; math to Valenzuela and Pineda; social studies to Babautau and Lallane Guiao; science to Lea Guiao and Agulto; Chamorro bilingual to Lallane Guiao and Reyes; and sportsmanship to Zerah Castro and Babauta.

Antonio Bornilla II, Agulto, Bryan Castro, Pineda, Reyes, and Matthew Mafnas also received leadership awards for their efforts as STUCO officials, while Bryan Castro, Levy Mario, and Valenzuela each received perfect attendance awards.

Wynnona Castro and George Babauta Jr. also earned citizenship awards.

Before closing her address, Lallane Guiao sent out a message to her peers.

“I hope that my fellow sixth graders and I will continue to sustain a strong focus on our learning and continue to read everyday,” she said. “You need these two simple things to help each and everyone of us reach our own potential.“
