Camacho, Villagomez top NMJGL
Lawrence Camacho and Bernard Villagomez topped their respective age groups during last week’s concluding two-day tournament of the Northern Marianas Junior Golf League held at the Laolao Bay Golf Resort.
Camacho ruled the 12-and-over division with his 88 after shooting a 45 in the first day and then followed it up with a 43 in the back. Dominic von Siebenthal finished second with his 95, built on a 50 in the front and 45 in the back.
Edward Joseph Torres was third in the age group after logging a 54 in the front and 49 in the back for a total of 103.
Villagomez, for his part, won the 11-and-under division after firing a sterling score of seven-over 79. The nine-year-old prodigy tamed the greens and fairways with a 36 in the front and 43 in the back.
Camacho’s brothers Cedric and Spencer finished a far second and third to Villagomez after carding 94 and 97, respectively. Cedric went 48 and 48 in the front and back, while Spencer’s line was 50-47.
Joe Motto Jr. traded in his tennis racquet for a golf club and played well enough for a 102 after shooting identical 51s in the front and back.
Alwin Dimaano was six shots off Motto’s score after winding up with a 108 (57-51), while swimmer and triathlete Lucas Knecht and Christopher Camacho fired 112 (56-56) and 115 (54-61), respectively.
