Team Toxic wastes Gualo Rai gunners
Team Toxic swamped the local competition at Hard Corp Paintball on Sunday as the veteran Guam-based squad emerged from the six-team field to take its first Gatorade Five Man Pro Jam in Gualo Rai by smoking everybody.
None of the homegrown teams failed to slow Toxic’s momentum through the first two rounds, in which they amassed 959 points, as they made it through every match without suffering a casualty.
The Toxic squad had the Saipan teams at a slight disadvantage as they are veterans of international competition, and they put their experience to work by executing flawless communication on the field to eliminate their opponents with an effective blend of speed and precision.
The Guamanians were joined by Citius who finished in second place with 576 points to knockout third place Team Hard Corps (473) by more than 100 points. After taking home the big money for two consecutive tournaments, Ichibang came up a little short in fourth place with 428 points, while the grizzled veterans from SS Ghost Company landed fifth with 421 points, and Mountain Dew rounded out the competition in six with 143 points.
By the time the final shootout rolled around the Toxic crew was all warmed up and ready to go, but talk among the crowd was that Citius had a chance to make the finale interesting because they were catching breaks all day long.
That changed as soon as officials said “Go-Go-Go” to start the shootout as Toxic wasted little time in the first game by smoking Citius with an 88-5 score in little more than three minutes—which was the longest any team shared the field with the Guamanians throughout the tournament.
There was more of the same in the second game as Toxic racked up a near perfect score during their 96-10 rout of Citius in less than a minute and a half.
Toxic bagged $500 in cash from Gatorade and a trophy from Hard Corps Paintball for their efforts on the field, but Citius
Though they missed out on the finals, Team Citius went home with five cases of paintballs and a trophy for taking the runner-up, while Team Hard Corps raked in three cases of paintballs and the third place trophy.
Tournament director Rob Hazlett extended his special thanks to the Mallari Enterprises’ Recon squad who put their playing aims aside in order to officiate the event, as well as the folks from Pacific Trading Co.
“Special thanks to Gatorade and the great guys and gals at PTC for their support and effort in helping our sport grow in the CNMI,” he said.
