On Memorial Day we honor the men and women who died in our nation’s wars against tyranny. We remember their sacrifice and hope to perpetuate their memory for future generations. We honor them and mourn their loss. They served their nation well, standing between the enemy and us, between good and evil, between freedom and tyranny.

Here at home, in the past year, we suffered the loss of two of our own. As we pause to remember our fallen comrades, we need to take time to give thought to their families, their friends and to those who love them. We cannot measure the depth of their loss. To you, the members of the VFW say, we will never forget your loved ones, their valor, sacrifice and the many good things they have earned for us. We promise that our fallen comrades will never be forgotten. They are with us daily, remembered in our hearts and minds.

On Monday, many members of the community will have a day off from work. Our service men and women do not have that luxury. We encourage you to use part of this day to remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice as well as those who continue to serve our nation. This year’s Memorial Day ceremonies will be held at the Susupe Veterans Memorial beginning at 9am.

Following the official ceremonies in Susupe, VFW Post 3457 invites the community to join us at the Post Home on Beach Road next to the Cabrera Center in remembrance of our fallen comrades and in celebration of the 10th year anniversary of the Saipan Post.
