Notorious burglar gets jail term
An ex-convict who is facing five burglary cases in 2005 entered yesterday a guilty plea and was slapped with two years and six months in prison.
Daniel H. Dela Cruz, 22, pleaded guilty to two counts of burglary in two cases. He also admitted violating his probation related to his 2004 criminal conviction.
Superior Court Associate Judge David Wiseman sentenced Dela Cruz to five years in jail, all suspended except for two years and six months for both charges.
Wiseman gave Dela Cruz credit for the time he had already served in jail, placed him on probation, and required him to pay court costs and probation fees.
Dela Cruz was charged in three cases with conspiracy to commit burglary, burglary and theft. In the fourth case, the defendant was charged with three counts of conspiracy to commit burglary, three counts of burglary, and three counts of theft. In the last case, he was charged with four counts of burglary and four counts of theft.
The defendant entered a plea agreement. He pleaded guilty to two burglary charges in two cases. The other charges and three cases were dismissed. (Ferdie de la Torre)
