Trench Tech fighters to see action in Fury VI and VII
While all the fuss around the streets is the upcoming battles in the third edition of Trench Warz, four warriors out of Trench Tech Purebred Saipan are currently prepping for fights to be held on Guam soon.
Spearheading the list of local representatives is professional mix martial arts fighter and Trench Tech instructor Tetsuji Kato, who with Danny Atalig and J.D. Reyes, will fight in Fury VI on June 24 at the University of Guam Fieldhouse.
Kato will be taking on professional fighter Toby Imada, a student of grappling world champion Dean Lister.
It will be the second Fury for Kato, who defeated Hawaii’s David Padilla in Fury III: Fighting Islands on April 9, 2005 at the Gilbert C. Ada Gymnasium.
“This is going to be a big fight for Kato,” said Trench Tech Gym owner Cuki Alvarez. “It’s going to be a big opportunity for him. If he wins, there’s an opportunity for him to make it to the big time where he could possibly fight in [Ultimate Fighting Championships] or Pride.”
Meanwhile, Atalig will put his kickboxing skills to the test against Justin Cruz of Spike 22. Cruz was also on Saipan for Fury III, losing a tough battle to Justin Ulloa, also of Guam.
For his part, Reyes will take on “Dynamite” David Pangelinan, also of Spike 22. Reyes currently sports a perfect 2-0 record, winning both of his fights in the inaugural and second Trench Warz.
Alvarez, who is no stranger to the Octagon, will also return to center stage on August or September in Fury VII.
“That’s already a guarantee. I’m already on the fight card,” he said.
Alvarez, who also won an exhibition fight in Fury III, was phenomenal and won by technical knockout in his pro debut last Dec. 10 in Fury IV against Guam’s Billy Ray Ada, a well-known street brawler with a boxing and wrestling background.
As reported earlier, Trench Tech is organizing Trench Warz III: Commotion this May 27. Tickets cost $20 and are available at the Trench Tech Gym behind Moylans Insurance in Garapan.
Proceeds of the event will be donated to the Micronesian Games Organizing Committee for the upcoming 6th Micronesian Games next month.
Already confirmed to fight in the main event are Slade “Rage” Adelbai and Tony “Xcaliber” Nekaifes.
