After four weeks of competition, the 2006 Budweiser Cup BANMI Men’s Island-wide Basketball League will go up to another level as teams try to better position themselves for the upcoming playoffs.

With only two more games remaining for each team before the playoffs begin, the pennant race is expected to be exciting as ever.

Opening the action this Saturday is No Zone-Bacardi and Cyclones-O’Doul’s, who will battle beginning 4pm at the Gilbert C. Ada Gymnasium.

No Zone looks to get back on the winning side. The team enters with a 1-2 record after winning its first game of the season and dropping the next two.

The 0-3 Cyclones, meanwhile, will be looking to break into the win column after suffering tough defeats.

The following bout is expected to be entertaining as three-time defending champion Ol’Aces-Budweiser will be facing four-time UFO champion Samahang Ilokano at Pangasinense at 6pm.

SIP currently sits on top of the league standings with a perfect 3-0 record, while the Ol’Aces enter with a 1-2 record after snapping their two-game skid last weekend.

Closing the evening is the CNMI National Men’s Basketball Team as they get another test against Microl-Bud Ice.

Both teams are currently tied for second in the team standings with 2-1 records, with Microl winning two straight before faltering last weekend to the Ol’Aces and the Nationals winning two in a row after dropping their opener to SIP.

The regular season closes next Saturday, with the Nationals taking on No Zone at 4pm, the Ol”Aces clashing with the Cyclones at 6pm, and SIP banging heads with Microl at 8pm.

The playoffs begin on June 3 with the top two teams getting first round byes and automatic tickets to the semifinals. That means the No. 3 team will face the sixth-seed, while the No. 4 and No. 5 teams battle. The winners advance to the semis.

The two teams that survive the semis will face off in the championship game on June 10 at 8pm. Prior to the bout will be the consolation game, which is scheduled to tip off at 6pm.
