Tinian Police Sergeant Pedro B. Cepeda yesterday entered a guilty plea in federal court to the charge he sold methamphetamine or “ice.”

Cepeda, 44, pleaded guilty to the indictment charging him with one count of distribution of a controlled substance.

The offense carries a maximum penalty of up to 20 years in prison without the possibility of parole and a fine of up to $1 million.

U.S. District Court for the NMI Chief Judge Alex R. Munson accepted Cepeda’s plea and set the sentencing for Aug. 22, 2006.

The plea agreement stated that on Oct. 25, 2005, the defendant, also known as Peter Cepeda, transferred .057 gram of “ice” to another person.

The jury trial was supposedly set for Monday.

Federal agents arrested Cepeda in March 2006.

Last year, Cepeda was convicted for assaulting a police officer and a woman. In that case, he was sentenced to one year of supervised probation for two counts of assault and battery.
