Ayuyus, Lady Dolphins too strong in All Schools
The Kagman High School Ayuyus and the Marianas High School Lady Dolphins posted impressive performances in Saturday’s 2006 McDonald’s All Schools Track and Field Championships at the Oleai Sports Complex.
The Ayuyus topped the boys category in a closely battled race with 126 points, while the MHS Dolphins finished just two points back with 124 points. Third place went to Saipan Southern High School with 45 points.
For their part, the Lady Dolphins ran away with the girls’ title as the team dominated and finished with 149 points. Second place went to SSHS with 114 points, while KHS finished with 28 points.
The Dolphins dominated the sprints and relays, but the Ayuyus were able to grab the advantage by scoring a bulk of points in the throwing events, just enough to win.
As reported earlier, the Dolphins’ Tyrone Omar was one of the four most outstanding athletes of the meet as he set a new CNMI National record and took gold in the 200m, while also striking gold in the 100m, high jump, and the 4X100m relay.
Omar sprinted in 11.32 seconds to top the 100m, set a new mark with a time of 23.21 seconds in the 200m, recorded a jump of 1.70 meters in the high jump, and anchored the MHS team to a time of 1:01.97 in the relay.
Placing second in the 100m was Darrel Roligat of MHS (11.53) while the bronze went to Jesus Iguel of Kagman (11.71).
Roligat also took silver in the 200m in 24.10 seconds, while Mike Camacho made it an MHS sweep with a time of 24.55 seconds.
Finishing right behind Omar in the high jump was teammate Ricardo Basilla, while John Santos of Kagman took bronze with a jump of 1.60 meters.
Meanwhile, Camacho took gold in the 400m in 55.85 seconds followed by Roligat (56.31) and Basilla (57.66).
Mt. Carmel School’s Champ Untalan dominated the 800m and won in 2:18.89. He was followed by Mark Lero of Tinian (2:20.93) and Allen Moses of Kagman (2:20.99).
Untalan was also the top performer in the 1,500m (4:47.54) while Nate Mateo of MHS (4:50.21) and Santos (4:50.42) won silver and bronze.
Kagman won gold and silver in the long jump with Santos (5.64m) and Frank Dillay (5.57m) topping the event. Anirut Tebuteb of MHS (5.25m) took bronze.
For his part, Jesse Atalig of Tinian (10.58m) won gold in the shot put, while Sid Shiro (10.53m) and Mika Iakopo (10.04m) of Kagman followed.
Sylvan Rangamar (31.55m) gave SSHS a gold in the discus, Atalig (30.89m) and Jae Min Kim (26.58m) of Tinian earned silver and bronze; and Irwin Taitano of SSHS (34.96m) top the javelin throw followed by Jesus Iguel (32.85m) and Willy Ngotel (31.43m) of Kagman.
In girls’ corner, Bennett sisters Yvonne (15.37) and Yvette (16.35) of Kagman were first and second in the 100m, while Emy Oiterong of MHS (16.54) won bronze.
Oiterong (33.11) bounced back in the 200m, while SSHS’s Christina Cabrera (34.36) and Jadine Villanueva (36.40) were second and third.
Oiterong (1.28m) also won the high jump, while Eva Ito of SSHS (1.21m) and teammate Gydia Taisacan (1.21m) earned silver and bronze.
Wang Bo of MHS also had a solid outing on the track as she won gold in the 400m, 800m, and 1,500m.
She posted a time of 1:08.14 in the 400m and was followed by teammate Gersil Race (1:22.77) and Haoting Romolor of SSHS (3:14.24).
Wang then topped the 1,500m in 5:07.20 followed by Melody Ludwig (5:50.88) and Romolor (6:42.55). It was the same order for the 800m, with Wang winning in 2:36.18. Ludwig (2:52.91) and Romolor (3:14.24) also finished strong.
It was a SSHS sweep in the long jump with Taisacan (3.37m), Romolor (2.71m), and Kelun Babauta (2.57m) taking top honors.
Ito won the shot put with a throw of 7.61m, while Rangamar sisters Lei (7.53m) and Rachel (7.47m) followed for MHS.
Lei (25.83m) and Rachel (20.63m) topped the discus, while Ito (20.55m) took bronze.
Lei (19.66m) also won the javelin throw while Babauta (15.02m) took silver.
