National Appreciation Week for Teachers is truly a reminder of how important teachers are in our society. The working class groups in America are rarely recognized especially at the national level and for teachers to receive this recognition is truly a testimony of their impact on our present and future society. Teachers “touch the future” on a daily basis, developing all the professionals and contributing members of our society. More often than not, the leaders of our society credit a large portion of their success to a teacher(s) that influenced them in some positive way. In fact, we all owe some form of gratitude to a teacher.

As the public school teacher representative, I want to thank the board, commissioner, principals, staff and students who have taken the initiative to recognize the teachers in the Public School System. I also want to extend kudos to those teachers who took the PRAXIS exam. We are truly at the crossroads of teacher relations and it is my sincere desire to see our teachers on the same level with all the other teachers in America in their level of quality and enjoying the same level of job security and satisfaction. I am hopeful the board will follow the path that leads to the CNMI having the one of the best systems for teacher relations that will lead to equality for our teachers with their counterparts on the mainland.

The future of the CNMI will always be in the hands of parents and teachers, which is why we (the people) of the CNMI should always show appreciation for teachers and principals in our demand for the best educators and at the same time we should also want to do the best that we can for our educators.
