Da Place Sure Shots wrapped up the championship of the Tapochao Division of the Budweiser SBA Open 8-Ball League following a 5-1 pasting of closest rival Round Two Hustlers Tuesday night at the Da Place.

With the victory, Sure Shots improved its win-loss record to 48-18 and virtually beyond reach of anyone with just a week to go in the competition.

Ironically, the Hustlers had the best chance to dislodge Sure Shots atop the league standings but the pressure got to the Round Two cue artists as they succumbed to the near sweep to fall to 41-25.

Outside of local pool legend Jerry Soriano, the rest of the Hustlers capitulated to the Sure Shots onslaught.

After Soriano beat close friend Senen Pangilinan in the first singles match, Da Place pool sharks Luis Fajardo, Jojo Talibong, Roman Rodriguez, and the doubles pairings of Pangilinan and Frank Pangelinan and Talibong and Rodriguez presided over a total domination last seen in this parts during the Marianas Turkey Shoot.

With the quartet showing their stuff in the green felt, Hustlers Rowell Mariano, Mario Diola, and Nolan Cultura all fell by the wayside with Mariano the only one forcing a rubber match in the best-of-three. The usually unflappable Soriano also took a hit as his pairing with Diola lost in the doubles, ditto for Mariano and Diola.

In the other match Tuesday night, USSP Dreams downed sister team USSP Fotten Palau, 4-2, at USS Peleliu Club.

Getting the wins for Dreams, which bettered its record to 27-39, were Rodel Dela Cruz, Marvin Cabo, and doubles teams of Cabo and Rick Elefante and Dela Cruz and Richard Celestino. Taking credit for Fotten Palau’s two wins were R.E. Rengiil and Chris Clarson. Fotten Palau remained in the cellar with a sorry 16-50 record,
