Energy efficiency will get a little more affordable for households this Friday, May 12, when the Residential Energy Assistance Challenge program of the Department of Community and Cultural Affairs partners with Ace Hardware to reduce costs on energy efficient products.

From 8am to 1pm on Friday, REACh will be at Ace Hardware in Susupe to display and demonstrate energy efficient products, which will be offered at reduced price throughout the day.

The public is invited to stop by and learn which products may be most useful for their households.

“We’re all looking for ways to reduce our power bill, and using energy efficient products is one of the best ways to accomplish that,” said REACh project coordinator Linda Concepcion-Torres. “Buying energy efficient products is an investment that pays off in the end.”

Store hours on Friday will be from 8am to 7pm.

REACh is a competitive grant awarded by the Department of Health and Human Services Administration for Children and Families.

In addition to in-store demonstrations and sales of energy efficient products targeting low-income families, the 18-month project also meets the need for Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program clients to comprehend family budget matters through village workshop on family budgeting and home energy conservation.

The need for public education on energy conservation is being met through the appointment of student “Energy Ambassadors” who teach their peers and the community on energy conservation; the use of energy conservation mascot “Officer Ophing Powers” for media and public appearances; and an Energy Conservation Day Camp held during the summer.
