Intersection sees 4 mishaps in 5 days
The Beach Road-Quartermaster Road intersection is proving to be a dangerous zone for motorists after four vehicular accidents occurred in the area in the past five days. Fortunately, no one was killed in those four accidents.
Yesterday morning, Saipan Tribune learned from witnesses that a Garapan-bound Toyota Echo driven by a woman rammed into the newly constructed island in the area and hit the traffic sign on it. The woman was not injured. Her car had extensive damage to the hood portion.
The accident was followed yesterday afternoon when a Ford Runner with license plate SILENCR collided with a Toyota Corolla with license plate ABY 366. No one was injured.
Witnesses said the Toyota Corolla, driven by a female, came from Quartermaster Road when it suddenly crossed toward Beach Road. The car ended up ramming the right front side of the Ford Runner that was heading toward Garapan.
The driver of the Ford Runner was Jenna Manacop, wife of detective Simon Manacop. She and her two children were on their way to Jollibee Restaurant at that time.
The Corolla sustained extensive damage to the hood, while the Runner had moderate damage to the front right side portion.
These two incidents come in the wake of two other such accidents in the same area.
On Monday afternoon, a pickup truck collided with a car. No one was injured.
Witnesses said the pickup truck, being driven by a man, was traveling along Beach Road to the Garapan area when a car traveling in the opposite direction suddenly crossed the highway into the path of the truck. The truck, which was traveling slowly, still ended up striking the left hood of the car. Both vehicles had moderate damage. Traffic investigators found the operator of the car at fault, Saipan Tribune learned.
On Friday afternoon, a car coming from the Quartermaster Road also collided with another vehicle. One was injured in the accident. Both vehicles had extensive damage.
An island on the middle of Beach Road was recently constructed in the area. Some motorists observed that the island has made the highway narrow.
