Sablan inducted to Phi Sigma Honor Society
Hawaii Pacific University recently issued its distinguished academic achievers list that included a Saipan girl on the Dean’s List and ultimately on the National Dean’s List.
Juanet Santos Sablan, a first year student at HPU, was inducted into the Phi Sigma Honor Society at an Honors Brunch at the Hale Koa Hotel in Waikiki, Hawaii on April 2. Sablan was one of about 15 students inducted last month to this prestigious level of honors.
Phi Sigma is a National Honor Society dedicated to recognizing and rewarding academic achievers at institutions of higher learning. To qualify for this honor society program, a student must be enrolled as a freshmen or sophomore, has earned 60 or fewer semester credits toward a baccalaureate degree, and has earned a cumulative Honors Point Average (HPA) of 3.65 or higher. Membership to Phi Sigma is permanent for selected postsecondary education students enrolled full-time on a normal academic load. Sablan was accepted in the honor society with a grade point average of 4.0.
“Congratulations on your achievements. You have proven yourself to be one of our most excellent students,” according to the HPU Vice President of Academic Affairs.
When asked how she felt about her selection, Sablan said, “I feel a little more challenged in college and having been selected for this honors program sort of takes the notch a step further. Living up to the membership will mean I have to work even harder; but it’s okay.”
Sablan is a graduate of Mount Carmel School, the salutatorian for the Class of 2005 and valedictorian for the MCS Junior High School Class of 2001. She is currently enrolled in her second semester at HPU with a major in Human Resources Development.
Sablan is a recipient of the 2005 Joeten Scholarship and the 2005 Society for Human Resource Management – CNMI Chapter scholarship.
“She is very hard working. We are very proud of her! We pray she continues to do her best,” said her parents Nic and Maggie Sablan.
Proud grandparents Nick and Hilaria Santos were in attendance at the induction ceremony. (PR)
